Hello, I found your site by surfing the net, I´m from Mexico.
I undestand your point of view, but, the first thing that come to my mind is the prase "The Customer is Always right". I'm a bussines-owner too, I have a travel agency in Mexico city, but I learned that you have to pleased your customer in order to have a good relation.
In a sales course I learned that A customer is the person that return to your store an buy from you for a second time. If just buy from you 1 time, that person is just a shooper.
What if your girlfriend insdtead of say "No, we can not took off the jacket from the mannequin" she would said "Yes madam, gime me a minute to take the jacket off" Not only she would have a happy customer, she probably recommend the store for the excellent actitude to the customer, or probably would have said, "The manager in the Abercromby store is excellent".
Sorry but I don´t agree, if you don't try your customer as if they were special, you are loosing many good things to your bussines. Everybody is different, and, when you exceed the standars of atention, great things happened.
If it is a rule of the rule not to do such things as "gladly taken the jackets off the display mannequins", perhaps your girfriend should say this story to her boss, and say that a bussines -any bussines- is alive because of the client. There is no other formula to been succesful in bussines than give the customers what they need.
